Since I’m due to give birth to my next child on the day of Queen’s Prize Tournament, it’s probably a good thing I put three entries into the tri-levels at Kingdom Arts and Sciences this year. The last time I felt able to enter a competition was before I became pregnant with,or rather before IContinue reading “Kingdom Arts and Sciences, 2018: My Experience (and thoughts)”

The Virelai that Wasn’t: Singing de Mauchaut
(Below is the documentation for my vocal performance entry for Kingdom Art’s & Sciences, 2018. I asked to be judged at the Advanced level and received a score of 28/30. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask someone to film my performance because I was so nervous. The video provided in the text is of a differentContinue reading “The Virelai that Wasn’t: Singing de Mauchaut”
The Tale of Emeline: A Study in Middle English Language and Poetry

Emeline’s Silver Hammer Scroll Text in Middle English pronunciation.
I can’t watch this because it makes me feel self-conscious, but my Lord Husband said it’s really cool and it’s my best recording of Emeline’s scroll text to-date. Enjoy!
A Fourteenth Century Embroidered Hood: An Example of Identity and Decadence in the High Middle Ages.
Hello! Below is the full and un-abridged version of my documentation for my hood project. Because it clocked in at 10 pages before I had written the conclusion, added in-text citations, images, or a works cited page, I had to trim the fat from the version I will present at Kingdom Arts and Sciences. IContinue reading “A Fourteenth Century Embroidered Hood: An Example of Identity and Decadence in the High Middle Ages.”
Emeline’s Silver Hammer Scroll Text
This scroll was presented last September at Gryphon’s Fest. I wrote it after the Chaucerian style, rhyming couplets iambic pentameter, in the Middle English of the second half of the fourteenth century. The text itself has only 176 words as it was intended to be written as a label on a jar for Emeline’s vinegarContinue reading “Emeline’s Silver Hammer Scroll Text”
Secret Project Revealed!
Well, I’ve finished the project I’ve been alluding to for weeks. I’m too tired to write a full post, but here are the pictures for now. Completely hand sewn, wool fabric with linen lining. Constructed with linen thread and finished in silk. Embroidered with silk thread and embellished with freshwater pearls.
The Balancing Act…
Currently, I’m on self-imposed bedrest as my body painfully makes room for my little one’s growth. Round ligament cramping is one way to worry expectant parents and discomfort a fecund Lady Mother. Thankfully, my sweet lord husband (I still love finally being able to call him that out loud instead of just in my heart)Continue reading “The Balancing Act…”
Silken Cloth Liken Silken Tongues…
Beware both! Perhaps it’s just the tightness of the weave that frustrates me so much, but sewing through tissue-thin habotai silk is such a bother! I’d rather have a nice, lush wool or a soft linen any day of the week. Oddly enough, I know someone who can weave silk on her home loom atContinue reading “Silken Cloth Liken Silken Tongues…”
A Ladye’s Guide to Safety at War
Although Gulf Wars and Estrella are now behind us, the War Season is just getting started in the SCA as weather warms across the Heartland and the East. (At least it will eventually!) The Society Calendar (which is incorrect in the dates for Battlemoor) shows that the SCA still has five Wars and two three-dayContinue reading “A Ladye’s Guide to Safety at War”
